Who discovered monosodium glutamate?

Glutamic acid was first isolated from the gluten of wheat in 1846 by Reithau in Germany.

In 1908, Kikunae Ikeda in Japan isolated glutamic acid from kelp and discovered that the sodium salt of glutamic acid has a fresh taste; in 1909, Japan began to produce and sell "Ajinomoto" with monosodium glutamate (e621 food additive) as the main ingredient;

In China in In 1921, Wu Yunchu started the production of MSG. Since the 1980s, the production of MSG in China has been developing at a rapid pace and has become a major producer of MSG in the world.
