Recent trends in freight market: Overall shipping costs are still rising
Southeast Asia: It is expected to increase by $100-$200/container in the 2nd week of June, and then stabilize. With the exception of one port, Chittagong in Bangladesh has increased by about $400/container this week, and it is expected to increase by another 300 US dollars in the 2nd half of June.
Middle East/India and Pakistan/Red Sea: It is expected to increase by $600/container in mid-June.
Europe/ North Africa/Mediterranean: It is expected to increase by $500/container in mid-June;
South America: It is expected to increase by $800-$1000/container in mid-June;
Africa: Africa is expected to increase by about $500/container in June;
Reason: After the tariffs between China and the United States were reduced, American companies quickly restarted the supply chain, a wave of shipments emerged, and there was even a temporary shortage of container
shipping capacity, causing freight rates to soar. In this market context, shipping companies raised ocean freight rates while reassigning ships that had just been transferred from the US market in April back to the China-US
route. The most optimistic scenario is that after the 30th, the shipping capacity will gradually recover and the freight rates will gradually improve. In addition, the four months of 5/6/7/8 are basically months with higher
ocean freight rates, and the subsequent price cuts will not be as low as in the first quarter.
